Supporting communities through sustainable IT reuse
January 6, 2026
Responsible IT lifecycle management is about more than security and compliance. It is also an opportunity to create positive social impact when technology is reused in the right way.
A recent collaboration between UKHarvest, IHG Hotels & Resorts and OCM demonstrates how redundant IT can be repurposed to support vital community work. Through this partnership, four refurbished laptops were donated to UKHarvest’s Nourish Hub team. In turn this helped to strengthen operations at their London Community Café.
UKHarvest works nationally to rescue surplus food and redistribute it to communities facing food insecurity. Reliable technology played a key role in enabling their teams to coordinate logistics as well as manage data and deliver food education programmes. The donated laptops are already making a meaningful difference to day to day working practices at the Nourish Hub.
Clare Smith, Account Manager at OCM, said:
“It’s fantastic to see redundant IT being reused in a way that genuinely supports people and communities. Working with partners like UKHarvest and IHG shows how organisations can extend the value of their IT assets while also doing something positive and practical.”
This project reflects OCM’s wider commitment to sustainability and social value. Where equipment remains fit for purpose, reuse is always prioritised to support the circular economy in addition to reducing unnecessary e-waste. More about this approach can be found on our dedicated Sustainability page.
OCM provides secure IT lifecycle management services across the UK. This includes certified data destruction, refurbishment and responsible recycling. Refurbished equipment is processed through audited systems that ensure security as well as compliance and quality. Learn more about refurbished IT services.
